The Liar

"The Liar" (to the tune of 'The Boxer')

He was such a tall boy.
Though this story's seldom told,
And he flaunted his adventures
Though none they did believe him,
Rory MacTwatem
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest.

Well he told a tale
of the Formor he slew,
When he was no more than a boy
In the company of heroes
In the quiet of the blasted moors,
Running fast,
Laying low,
Seeking out the wetter boglands
Where the fishy people go,
Looking for the places
Only they would know.

Well he'd lie-la-lie,
lie-la-lie-lie, lie-la-lie
lie-la-lie
lie-la-lie-lie, lie-la-lie
la-la-la-la-lie

Asking only pay in whisky
He'd regale you of his tales,
But no-one did believe the
stories of the fireballs
He could fire at you
I do declare,
There were times he claimed his fiery ass
Set fire unto his hair.

And he'd lie-la-lie...

In the clearing stands a hero,
Doer of deeds it was his trade
But he carried the reminders
Of every jibe that laid him down
And cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame,
"I am leaving, I am leaving."
But the liar still remains

But still he'd lie-la-lie...
